CREDO Wireless: your phone bill support progressive causes

Formerly Working Assets Wireless, CREDO is an MVNO of Sprint. I’ve been seeing their advertising on the sides of buses here in SF, but I know the folks at CREDO and that they’re good people doing good work. With a CREDO Wireless phone, you get the same quality of the Sprint network, but with better support (you speak to passionate folks at CREDO) and a portion of your bill goes to causes you support rather than to larger margins for a phone company. Whether or not you get one of their phones, you can join their text messaging program (they send a text when you can do something to make an important difference):

    Credo is a great concept, but it's a HORRIBLE wireless company. Expensive, terrible customer service, extra charges for many basic things that are standard anywhere else, phones with disabled features, the list goes on. Get a good phone company and a good plan and take the money you save & give it to the charity of your choice. But RUN from Credo!

    One month ago I tried to join Credo and it has been a nightmare ever since. I could not be home during the 12 hour window required by Fed Ex to sign for packages (this limitation was never detailed to me when I ordered the phones.) and could not accept delivery as the driver kept coming while I was out. The phones went back, I canceled my order, was never credited for the undelivered phones, Took 3 weeks to reply to my email supposedly "resolving" charges and now my first $149 phone bill arriving almost 1 month after they received the undelivered phones back. I was also signed up for "Credo Humane Society" when I wanted my money to go elsewhere. When I questioned it I was accused of using some special offer code. I received no special offer. I clearly stated upon ordering that I liked the idea of my phone use supporting the ACLU and Amnesty International. I am still waiting for credit against the purchas price of the phones. The reps are lovely to speak to when they resolve nothing. I agree with previous post. When I get my refund I will split it between ACLU and Amnesty. Wonderful concept terrible reality.

    OK, ordinarily I'd let this all go, but I've used Credo (was Working Assets, which I liked **much** better as a name) for years ... about 10 years for long distance and a couple of years for wireless.


    I'm extremely satisfied ... the service has been superior. At times when things went south (I have teenage kids, so you know what can happen with wireless errors) they've been sane, accomodating and helpful. The extra cost, if any, is marginal ... I compared to Sprint, and there wasn't any significant difference for me.



    And the ability to hound what passes for a congress nowdays has been spectacular.



    My view is ... if you have a problem with them they'll fix it if you approach them reasonably. More than I can say for the other carriers I dropped one by one to move all our phones to Credo.
